Medicaid Planning Lawyers Helping You Understand Medicare Eligibility in Massachusetts

Although Medicaid is a federally sponsored program, it is run by the state of Massachusetts, which has its own criteria for qualifying for benefits. The Medicaid long-term care lawyers at Meyers & Welch will walk you through the application process and ensure all of the requirements are met.

To qualify for Medicaid long-term care benefits, you must need help with at least two of the following activities: eating, dressing, bathing, using the bathroom, getting out of bed or caring for incontinence.

There are also financial limits on the value of assets you may own. To be eligible for Medicaid benefits, individual people cannot have assets whose value exceeds $2,000. Spouses who are living together cannot have assets valued over $3,000. Married couples with one spouse living in a nursing home or other institution cannot have assets worth over $109,560.

Despite these restrictions, you may still be able to protect your assets and get the coverage you need. Whether establishing a trust or utilizing another tool, our elder law and LTC lawyers can help you preserve your assets for the next generation.
